Rudolf Steiner, Anthroposophy, and Race
A Webinar
September 22, 7:30 PM

12/16/2020

Dear ,

The present time in our national history is one of reawakening, with sharp intensity, of our national conscience relative to our own legacy of racial injustice.   In turn, this has —  among other things — prompted a re-examination of the way our culture regards the relationship of many historical figures to racism.

What can these questions prompt in consideration of anthroposophy and the legacy of Rudolf Steiner’s statements on racial questions?

We start by accepting as axiomatic Rudolf Steiner’s remarks of December 4, 1909:

Therefore, in its fundamental nature, the anthroposophical movement, which is to prepare the sixth period, must cast aside the division into races. It must seek to unite people of all races and nations, and to bridge the divisions and differences between various groups of people. The old point of view of race has a physical character, but what will prevail in the future will have a more spiritual character.

How then are we to understand certain comments – questionable to our present sensibilities – by Steiner, and more importantly, how to contextualize Steiner’s insights into human evolution which outlines the rise and fall of peoples and cultures as part of an organic tapestry of spiritual evolution, as guided by spiritual beings?

And, most importantly – how do we as anthroposophists understand the relevancy, application, and culturally sensitive articulation of Steiner’s teachings as they apply to peoples and races, and how do we then respond to the current awakening of conscience that is occurring today from our deepest, Christ-filled anthroposophical intuition?

David Eyes will be presenting these questions, and providing a contextual overview, in a branch meeting talk presented via a Zoom webinar, followed by a brief question and answer.

This topic will be followed up in our October branch meeting by a facilitated discussion, again managed via Zoom “break-outs” of smaller groups, where we will reflect personally on these questions, followed by a sharing of results with the entire group.

When: Sep 22, 2020 07:30 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)
