How Does Freedom Shape Healthy Community Life?
Creating Social Health an event in the Baumheier Series
Sunday, May 3, 10:00 AM
The Declaration of Independence named Freedom from Tyranny as something worth dying for. Generations have shed blood to defend it. We carry it in our hearts as sacred—and rightly so. But we also know, in the same heartbeat, that freedom cannot mean doing whatever we wish without consequence. The moment my freedom encroaches on yours, something may go wrong. The community that imposes conformity in the name of order does not produce freedom either; it barely produces compliance, and eventually it foments revolt.
So where does genuine freedom live in a healthy society? The Baumheier Series was created to paint a new picture of social life that would be healthy for all human beings. Upcoming events, all online, will be on May 3 (cultural life), June 7 (economic life), and June 28 (summary and deepening). The next event, on May 3rd, will focus on Freedom in the cultural areas of education and medicine. What is more important, freedom or uniform standards? If freedom, how much freedom? How would we avoid anarchy? The May 3rd conference will be held from 10am – 1pm and will feature conversation among leaders in cultural life about this critical issue of our time. There will also be substantive discussion of questions from you, our audience. We hope to inspire you with positive next steps that you can take in your own journey. Please join us and forward this invitation to your colleagues!![]() |
