Treasurer’s Report September 2016 to April 2017
The Branch is an unincorporated entity that carries its own expenses and is supported by the entrance fees to some of its events as well as the annual contributions of its members. The expenses might be the rental of space such as for the Oberufer Shepherds Play and refreshments at its events, also lighting, extra chairs, even PortaPotties, as well general operating expenses such as bank fees and printing and copying. Some events require an honorarium and, perhaps, travel expenses for the speaker. The Core Group attempts to organize a Members’ meeting at least once a month through the period September to June. Some of these events might be just a Branch meeting for its members; others were events/workshops involving speakers or a performance. Of the eleven meetings to date (September 2016 to April 2017 and not including those meetings during Holy Nights as detailed on the following schedule), most were events or workshops of some form when small fees/donations were collected from those who attended. These events/workshops resulted in a positive cash flow contribution of $6,373. Nine members made contributions to the Branch totaling $360. However expenses for these events/workshops totaled $8,394 resulting in a net loss for the period (September 2016 to April 2017) of $1,661. Fortunately the Branch has a small reserve that helps covers this loss although this becomes smaller each year. The Branch is supported by its members – attendance at meetings and events as well as contributions are very important to the Branch’s well–being. We urge members to consider making contributions to the Branch either directly to the Treasurer (John Baring, 500 Cathedral Drive, #2814, Aptos, CA 95001) payable to the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Branch of the Anthroposophical Society in America (SCMBBASA) or through the mechanism set up on the Branch’s web site (http://www.anthroposophysantacruz.com/membership). The Core Group feels that, perhaps, it has not sufficiently emphasized the call for members to contribute on an annual basis in accord with either the suggested amount or whatever is personally appropriate. It plans to undertake to more vigorously remind members that they affirm their support for the branch through a membership contribution. It is only with this support that the Branch can continue to offer events such as happened in the last years.
With many thanks for your support.
