BOOK SALE
Liberating the Branch Library …

As some of you may or may not know, the branch has a library of many hundreds of volumes by Rudolf Steiner and other anthroposophical authors.  It has been housed at Camphill, which has become increasingly impractical.  In that we have found that these books were circulating very little, while online and elsewhere, availability of anthroposophical works has never been greater, the Core Group has decided to let the books circulate again in the world.

Some titles may go to the national library or to initiatives like the Anthroposophical Prison Outreach.  A large portion of them will also remain at Camphill serving in future as the library for the Camphill Academy college accredited Social Therapy program.

Our first wish is to return as many of these titles to the local branch community.  To do this, we will offer the bulk of these titles for sale at the April 25 branch meeting.  The prices will reflect market value, but will be generously discounted for our members.  The sale will proceed in the half hour prior to the 7:30 meeting — starting at 7PM.

Why are we selling these books?  They represent an asset of the branch accumulated through various bequests.  We feel it appropriate to convert some of this value to branch funds for other activities.  We also want to make the distribution fair in this sense – those who feel the strongest impulse to own a title, can elect to pay for it.

We also want to see the membership be first to benefit in their anthroposophical practice from the liquidation of the library, so at the close of the meeting, we will invite each member to select any three books (small, medium, or large) not sold at no cost.  This will be entirely on the honor system and we ask that you only select books for yourself and not for others present or absence.  Along with three free books selected, you may of course still purchase additional books at the marked price.

Books remaining will be distributed further in the future, including sold as used books.

 In service,

John Baring, Daniel Bittleston, Susan Williams Cook, David Eyes, Jeanne Feeney
the Branch Core Group
